Redmond Wetland Education Centre

The Redmond Wetland Education Centre is being actively developed into a regional learning space.  The site provides hands-on learning activities for students from K to 12. The active eco-system provides a broad range of educational activities for teachers and students.

Low impact trails, movable picnic tables, and a storage facility for educational resource washrooms have been built and installed by students to date. Additional add-ons such as a solar power array and washrooms are in the works. The use of the site is rapidly expanding year over year.

Overview of the Wetland

The wetland is located along Highway 16 just west of Vanderhoof. The wetland is connected to the Stoney Creek system that drains into the Nechako River in Vanderhoof.

Sections of the wetland area are used for cattle ranging, and is fenced from the waterway to allow for the wetland to re-establish. Boardwalks have been added to the site to lessen disturbance to the landscape. The network of boardwalks and designated trails is expanding each year. Interpretive signs will be added along the boardwalk system to help in public education as the site is visible and easily accessible by the public.
